Gypcrete Or Not?

I have a new construction with radient tubing laid and ready for a pour but have been getting horror stories about the quality control of the local gypcrete installer. I have also read some forums of floor installers that refuse to install with a warrenty over gypcrete because of the poor adhesion as a result of the "powder", cracks, chipping and inconsistant levels.

I have read about a similar product called Levelrock that doesn't seem to have the residuals that gypcrete creates. Either one has to be a company licensed installer and makes it very expensive. Is there any quality lightweight product or mix available that does not require that middleman?

Re: Gypcrete Or Not?

gypcrete in the flooring world is thought to be made out of a drywall like material thus the dust stuff. We will not install over it if it is our choice and will try to get it out of any arch specs.

They have some new products on the market for radiant heating but I'm not willing to beta it if I can help it.

Remember if the concrete fails and ruins the floor it is not the concrete that gets the bad rep... it is always that damn [insert flooring brand] floor. Thus when we get burned .. never again!

Ardex featheredge is our prefered product.
