Garage Foundation

Can anyone provide me with some good specs for pouring an Alaskan slab foundation. Sub-base material? Vapor barrier? Rebar or mesh? I am building a 20x20 single story, wood framed, detached, unheated garage in Chicago. Monolithic slab meets code. Existing garage slab has heaved badly. Should I use a stem wall instead and float the slab? I want to overbuild.

Re: Garage Foundation

The Alaskans use lots of salmon oil in their garage foundations, that's the secret ingredient.

You have no work so you have designated yourself as some type of chat police? Sad... I am new to this site and trying to familiarize myself as well as get some sound advice. Sorry that I have distracted you from your Miley Cyrus DVD.

Re: Garage Foundation

Well Mr. Crazy Horse

It is advisable to roll-with-the-punches and accept a snide remark concerning your mistake rather than be a ass and alienating the entire community in one fell-swoop by being pissy and unable to handle a bit of nut knocking.

Now. As it stands, you have posted the same DIY question in four forums. Had you read the Rules of Posting, you may have not made this mistake. If you have read the Rules and decided to forgo protocol, then you have shown your true substance and are less then an acceptable entity to be posting here.

Again, if it is just pure mistake and unfamiliarity, consider yourself no longer unfamiliar. If not................
