Demo Cost For Concrete Driveway?

I am about to submit a bid to demo an aggregate driveway that is 10'x65'.

It's my first time doing this and I would like to be as accurate as possible. The site is in Louisville, KY.

Can someone help me calculate my estimated costs?

I would also like to know what variables are considered when factoring this cost.

Thanks in advance!

Ace,
I think you might get more help if you took a shot at the estimate first and then asked for feedback. How do you plan to do it? What equipment do you have? Estimate times and come up with all your direct costs for labor, materials, equipment rental, disposal, etc. Roll in your indirect costs. Add a profit. Good luck.

whatever price you come up with, the most important thing you need to put in when estimating concrete removal is a general note, that states, this demo estimate assumes 4" of concrete, any additional will be subject to additional charges. you do not want to get stuck ripping out 9" slab or some other ****.

Thanks for the input.

After mulling the idea overnight, I am thinking that it may be smarter to just sub it out. They have the equipment and experience after all.

What's the going rate for removal of driveway?

I'm guessing $1/sq.ft.

Re: Demo Cost For Concrete Driveway?

A dollar a sq ft will not pay anything on that job. I don't think you will get a sub for that. In florida the price is alot closer to $2 per sqft if the contract is large enough. Assuming the slab is 4" it will weigh over 30k. It is enough to warrant a roll off but they start at around $4-$500. At 2 per sqft that is $1300. -500 for the roll off. 800 is not a horrible number for a half days work, assuming the sub has the right equipment.

We charge $2 a foot to remove 4 inch slabs, period. I am not in this for the experience, and it can be hard on the equipment.

I am in Michigan. i just bid a job that was a brick porch demo, then overlay the existing cinder block with a "4 inch cap and a 426 sq ft tear out of 6" driveway and replace. I bid just the driveway tear out and replace at $1800. To low??? Probably, i might tell the HO i need to waste for the frost laws to be lifted before i can do it, or charge more. Right now materials would be $900

Re: Demo Cost For Concrete Driveway?

We are not demo contractors, we won't tear anything out that we will not replace and we are not interested in anything that pays less than $9.00/sf(labor and mats), maybe demo contractors charge less for removal but we have plenty of good paying jobs (brick, stone, dec concrete and block) that we are not going to do the hard work for almost nothing; for 426 sf of driveway we'll charge $3800 and no less (unless a labor/disposal trade in is achieved), I think you're too low on your price, there's easily $1400 in mats alone, your gross profit at best won't be enough to pay for one labor's week.
Good Luck!

Re: Demo Cost For Concrete Driveway?

I charge just as much to demo, haul and dispose as I do to put it in. Usually for private homeowners $3.50-4, times 2 to rip it out. I've got a jackhammer attachment for my bobcat, have to pay for hauling and landfill fees.

I wouldn't guess, you will lose a lot of money doing that.

Re: Demo Cost For Concrete Driveway?

Here is S.W. Florida We get about .50 -.65 sq' as an average. but rolloffs only cost me $125.00 and we use a bobcat s300 with forks so removal rate is about 350 sq' per hr. this is for a driveway open areas only.

Hello,
To do a broom finish driveway from start to finish is $5.00 a Sq. Ft. or $3,250.00 This cost includes everything from tearout to dressup after completing the job. Concrete will be 4" and it will be 3500 p.s.i. with fibermesh. Concrete will have a 3" to 4" rock base under it. This price is for a level driveway witj minimal incline.

Re: Demo Cost For Concrete Driveway?

I get 5 to break 2.5 to haul and dispose. Great point Gene about having it in writing about thickness. I think we all have been there at one time or another. A $1 a sqft sounds ridiculous for that kind of work, but I am in the Northeast and everything here is more expensive. I try to look at other trades too and see what they would charge for say ripping up a 100sqft tile floor just to see what it is, because your disposal weight is ten times the cost here. If your not making money doing it, it isn't worth it !

General pricing for 4" thick concrete removal in the Louisville area is approx $6/sf. This would be contingent on whether access for heavy equipment is granted. If this would be done with small hand tools, add $1-$2/sf
