Concrete Stain Problem

Clearly I need to learn more about coloring concrete.

Here's the situation..
I demo'd and had 1/2 of a patio poured for a client. The other half is in good shape, and has on it some sort of stain, around 50 years old, and in great shape. This "stain" is penetrated pretty deep into the concrete.
The concrete guy poured the new section, and while green, applied an a clear acrylic sealer.
I told my client early on in the process that we would have no problem staining a similar color over the existing and the new. The color is a red, terracotta-ish.
What to do? I think I need to strip ALL the concrete with a xylene product and restain. Not what I anticipated.
What are my options? Is there a paint that will go over everything? An easier way to prep the concrete? Ant ideas?
