1st Thread For Glasshouse
i was checking your "out of the ground" album and liked the panel system. i've used that pin/dog but with the 2x4 ran around just the 3/4 treated.
just recently did a 10' wall with the ties having loops in each end and rebar ran thru the loops. seemed very flimsy and had to brace brace brace. i think the pin/dog method creates a straighter wall. looks like the panels would only help. i would like this setup and was wondering how practical it is to build. are the panels heavier than a single 3/4 sheet? it looks like your using 1/2 obs with a 16 oc 2x4 frame. do you need less bracing? seems like we used about 1/3 of bracing with the dogs compared with the rebar frame, you couldnt walk the overdig 2 ft. are the seams as clean as they seem? looks like theres less seperation between the panels vs just the 3/4 dog that i used, which was pretty clean vs the rebar frame were you could actually see every sheet.we're getting ready to do another foundation and i want a strong argument for the better method, any other insights you got please interject at your own discretion

Re: 1st Thread For Glasshouse
The 2X4 panels are 24OC to cut back the weight and allow for easy handling. Plus it allows me to team the snap ties next to a stud. Then I cut 2X4 spin blocks about 12" long. As the form fills I set the spin blocks between the ply and whaler.
I set the footer, so the erecting surface was perfectly straight, making it simple to set the panels good and tight to eliminate ugly seams. The OSB makes a nice light textural surface on the wall and looks real sharp, however be sure to turn the shinny protected surface to the wall the other will soak up crete like a sponge and make it impossible for re-use. I did this because my foundation sub gave me the circle jerk, however, I used this method a lot in the early 80s. Keep in mind, It's kind of tuff to find catsheads and snapties anymore. It turned out really cool and enjoyed the walk down memory lane. Bob

Re: 1st Thread For Glasshouse
snapties!!!!guess the ole boys didnt like cats..spin blocks? you got me there..im guessin across the tops?
it was a memerory lane here as well, mid 90's, at lake ozark and it seemed the only alternitive was the aluminum forms with the brick mold. most of ours we striped the outside while it was still green and gave it some degree of a rake finish..we used a metal pronged rake and "roughed up" the face. thanks for the reply...gonna do some research on the "dogs" and snapties. "The 2X4 panels are 24OC to cut back the weight and allow for easy handling." http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TQCZAkMWKkP1cd8k5! starting to look alot like 2x6's?...doesnt storage start becoming an issue???
