One subject I would like to bring up is that more and more CEO's are pushing for CAD work to be done in China. Always looking at the bottom line. True that in some of these countries, they will use an Engineer or an architect to do CAD work which result sometimes into supperior work, but ultimately, the folks in here will suffer, we've seen what happenned to all the manufacturing jobs (white and blue colar alike).
It starts at the bottom, today it is CAD work, tomorrow, design and small lay-out, and before we know it, it's the whole things that moves overseas.

I am a Mechnaical Engineer and my PM suggested that I use our China office when I requested CAD help. I found a way with my CAD guy to say that we are not that busy after all, we can squeeze the work in (with unpaid overtime).

Next time, US contractors may be bidding against foreign contractors, not just CAD work.

What should we do to stop this hemorrage of jobs?

whoohoo...a drafting forum....I could be wrong, but I think I asked for this last YEAR! *snort*. Thanks Nathan!

I am not worried about outsourcing from China. Drafting is way too envolved with interaction. I use gotomeeting to meet with my clients online (seeing that I have only met 10% of my clients in the past 15 years) and I have the culture of North America in my designs. If a CEO wants drones to draw, let them. They will have the response back to them not only from their clients but their trades as well.

GREAT NEWS, NOW A REQUEST. How about a sub forum called CAD for complete dummies like myself? I design in my head, math also with calculator, I can "SEE" everything I want to do but sure as Hell I cant get it to the computer. I use Ecabs cause it "draws" with rubber entities, I have tried almost every program all with total failure. I would like to think I am not alone but probably am. Just food for thought
