Re: MS Paint?

Ed, I really think SketchUp would be better for you. It's set up more for construction CAD work. Visio...not so much. Actually, we used to use Visio when I was a network admin for designing network flow charts and programming stuff. Besides, there are a lot of help sites for SketchUp online. Did I mention it's free?

Re: MS Paint?

Okay, I will beat my brains out on SketchUp Help Forums later on this week, but in the meantime, what are the simple tools and instructions I need to get familiar with to just do the diagrams for a roof "Foot Print".

It does not have to show the slope, just the perimeter outline shadow borders.

Cole,

If I click on that image it becomes full screen to me. What other way do you want me to do that? Should I zoom 200% or more and do a "Save As"?

Thanks Double-A,

Now I have some more homework to do tonight. That should help narrow down which information I need to concentrate on.

Plus, cheat sheets always help too.

"Why yes, Cole, that is precisely what I'm looking for. A tutorial is a splendid idea and I would appreciate it. It's a wonder some brilliant, smart, good looking, dashedly handsome person hasn't recommended something like that before."

Re: MS Paint?

OK, quick and nasty tutorial on using MS OneNote to manipulate images on your PC.

From the OneNote Self-Guided Tutorial...

__________________________________________________ ______________________________

OneNote will open and you'll see your image in the Unfiled Notes section.

You can now right click and Copy or Save-As to get that image into the clipboard. To move it to MS Paint, you would simply launch MS Paint and from the menu, select Edit, Paste.

You now have your image in MS Paint.

Cole,

That would be wonderful. It is exactly what I want, with roof pentration object details:

Mushroom Style Vents
Power Attic Vents
Chimney Or Chimney Housing
Flashing Detail Script Box To Point to Location
Soil Stacks
Antennae
Electrical Service Mast Pole
Service Mast Anchoring Bracket
Sattelite TV Dish
Existing Ridge Vents
Markings For Damaged Wood Decking
General Written Notes
Field For Name, Address, Estimate #, Phone #

As long as you were being specific.

Ed

BTW, a couple of your transcribed dimensions are incorrect. Were they illegible on your printed copy?

Why is is saying my previous message at the top is too short?
Ahhh! I see. I typed in my response in your quoted message.

Re: MS Paint?

Ed,
Yes, I have a little confusion with your numbers right in the middle of the roof.

Care to explain more, where I messed up so I can fix it?

Proportionately, it looks great!!!

The 11' 9" measurement that you have depicted as a gable/rake edge measurement is actually the left to right gutter eave edge measurement for that small rear section. It is longer than the related ridge line because it runs under the soffit overhangs from the rear roof sections to the left and to the right of it.

A 9' 9" measurement is missing, which would be the measurement from that rear middle roof section. It is the measurement from the eave to the ridge.

A 3' 10" gable/rake edge measurement is missing. It starts out at the left side of the 22' 5" garage ridge length and proceeds forward till it intersects with the middle roof sections right side of the 10' 7" ridge length.

Other than those obscure measurements buried in the middle, it looks really good. If I can get all of my drawings that professional looking and to scale, that would be a great help, regardless of the requirements of this insurance deal.

So, unless I forgot to mention any typical roof details, this will do just fine.

I hope it is not too burdensome to put together that tutorial.

If you don't get to it, i am sure, by just knowing which tools to learn how to become functional with, I will figure this out in short time. (Make the Tutorial though.....Please!!!)

I timed myself duplicating Cole's Sketchup drawing to give you an idea of how long it takes. It took me 3 mins 30 seconds to duplicate it including dimensions.

No rush.

I have 2 seminars to go to in the next week. One from OSHA and one for Buiding Envelope and Attic Ventilation. Then, hopefully, next week Thursday, I am taking a 3-4 day trip with the family to the Wisconsin Dells for a break.

Give yourself a week or so, if need be.

Thanks a lot though, for everything from you and everyone else so far.

Re: MS Paint?

Not only could you do that stair layout in Sketchup very quickly but you could invest an extra 5 to 10min and make it a 3D layout, then export different perspective of the 3D image as JPEGS to print out or put into email.
