Here's a couple of shots rendered within Chief (NOT raytraced w/ POV).
The render took 10 seconds (no shadows). The render w/shadows took 2 mins 20 sec.

POV raytraces: 1st one low settings 17m 50s....second one med. settings 2hrs 37m....and I'm not doing one on the high settings , it would take all night.
Now take into account that I don't ever use the POV, so the results reflect that (no pun intended). You should see some of the results that some of the users on chief talk are able to achieve. I'm too dumb/lazy to put the time in as the renders suffice for us.

I find, for my clients, that they are also fine with what CA produces without using POV or Kerky. And it's certainly good enough for me. But, if you want higher quality output in a shorter time - use Kerky. I just timed a full exterior raytraced w/ high settings (photon mapping, anti-aliased, 1024x768) it took about a minute. The model didn't have any trees which would add a little more time, but very fast none the less, especially when compared to POV.

I've looked at some of the stuff kerky produces and it looks sweet (i actually downloaded it awhile back, but haven't ever opened it up).
Just for sh!tes and giggles I started a POV on all high settings of the bathroom render last night at about 8:30 p.m.....it's still running (saying 51% complete) 15 HOURS later ....hope it finishes before I die...I'll post it if it does.

If anyone's still watching this thread, here's the final POV raytrace on all high settings.....71 1/2 hours!!! .
The glass shower door is still way too bright like the previous pics, but everything else looks a lot better.
I've also attache the pic of the final job.

I've been bugging Chief on the ChiefTalk forum to dump PovRay for months. They wouldn't let me post a link here in the body of the post till after 15 posts, but for some reason will let me post links in my signature soooo.....
For anyone interested, I have free Chief to Kerkythea tutorial videos that go through Sketchup to Kerkythea (both FREE programs), see link below.
If you have any success and are sick of PovRay, PLEASE post your renders and comments on ChiefTalk.
I am still learning all the time with Kerky, but attached is what I think is one of my better interiors (modeled in Chief).
Yes, V-Ray, MentalRay, and others do some amazing work, no doubt about it, but at least with Kerky you can get your feet wet with a much better renderer for free. Why not beef up on your skills and services while things are slow?

That looks great Bryce. I've seen some other nice stuff you've done over at chieftalk as well.
You're waaay beyond what I do with your renderings, but I always like to see what others can achieve with the software. I looked at your tutorials awhile back, and of course being a real amateur it made my head hurt.
Nice work.

Oh yeah, it can definitely muddy up your brain in a hurry. But the same can be said trying to wrap your brain around some crown molding or complicated stairs sometimes too. All worth the effort for the finished product.
Thanks for the kind words.

Bryce,
Thanks for the link to the training videos. I followed framerman's advice and downloaded Kerkythea but I had no luck figuring out how to render my Cheif drawing with it.
Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out with some training.

Being an ex-chief user and following on what framerman said, here is what a REAL rendering program can do for you. 3DSMAX + VRAY, keep in mind, I am not an amateur at this . These also were quick ones, not intricate and time consuming final production renderings. The models were from chief though and exported like framerman talked about, although I find chief models quick and easy, they aren't as good as creating them yourself.

Remember, this isn't good for EVERY project. If you are going to spend your time or even someone elses, make sure the customer needs it and that it's in your budget. Obviously if it is going to push them on your side of the fence then it is definitely worth it.

Nice work...you guys are killin' me. I think I've seen some of your stuff on chieftalk as well, and your symbols too if I'm remembering correctly.

The pretty pictures are nice, but do those programs do anything else like spit out construction drawings or parts lists or anything? Or is it just a rendering?

We use it to communicate with clients, subs, etc. If you want to PM me with an email address I'll send over 2 or 3 pdf's (too large to upload here) of the way we use it. Great communication tool.
I've just used it for interior remodeling but there are plenty of architects (i'm a lowly carpenter) that use it too.

I am a cabinetmaker and was curious. I use eCabinets to do my designing. It will do the rendering, make a parts list, do a nesting diagram for the plywood cutting, calculate the costing, do hardware lists. If you own the CNC machine it will transfer the cutting list to the machine and cut out the cabinets for you. I was just wondering if these programs you are using do anything like this.
Here are some renderings. I don't have the graphics card to get great rendering from this program, but it give more than enough detail to get the point across.
