Hey Cole,

Silly question here. Where in 150 mile radius of Dallas do you get that kind of elevation change to allow for a daylight basement? Does it slope that much toward the water?

Very nice work. My HP vista machine locks up with sketch up so I will just look and sigh. Y'all keep the 3d comin'. Its awesome.

Mike

Cole,
The house is cute as a bug!
I really like the looks.

But I have to ask, why would a nice guy
like you want to build a siding, flashing, roofing,
maintenance nightmare like that false gable
detail???

Agree. HO's year-round maintaining for double gable is more expensive then just build it --- like roofing, flashing, time spent on minute details, etc...

Thats wayyyyyyy better than what i can do with SU. 2 hours and I was able to do a rough of a sunroom for a customer. I'm not having any luck with windows and doors yet though.

If my wife found a house that she absolutely loved and brought me to look at it, I would not even get out of the car after seeing that double gable.

Sounds like everybody lives in stucco ranches with metal roofs, no windows, and yards with no grass.

Cole, get rid of that brick too, I don't want to have to tuck point it in 40 or 50 years.

Re: Design, I Am Working On...

Seems to be a drift of opinion on the
gable detail.
Only other minor thing is maybe the
balcony/deck could use a beefier skirt?
Maybe the railing will help the scale
of it.

When I see a detail that has no purpose, and, in fact will cause problems, then I do not like it. I have a similar gable situation (though not for looks, just piss-poor planning and design by the former owner), and it has been and is a problem.

They do look nice....
unless you know what it takes
to actually build and maintain it.
Then it loses all it's charm.

Just like owning a black sports car.

They're a bitch to keep clean, expensive to insure and you can't haul and lumber in them! Not much good if you get all practical.

But I've owned a few over the years!

Or access. If you look behind the third pillar, you can see his OSHA compliant Physical Control Zone and Fall Restraint Required posters. Only the kewl kids get to go out on that deck.

Re: Design, I Am Working On...

Of course, I am not done modeling yet so that is the reason for no spindles / fence. The spindles do not show up correctly when exporting such a large image from SU.

Re: Design, I Am Working On...

That 3d warehouse is a great place to get all those little things you don't want to take the time to model.

I use it all the time for toilets, sinks, vanities, windows, etc.

When you gonna get to the interior?

I have a whole mess of tile textures you can use for the bath and kitchen.

I plan on modeling a new tile design in sketchup every week and posting on our tile designs page.

I will post some interior shots probably early next week, and any input that you may have or anyone else would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Design, I Am Working On...

I gotta say I like the double gables,as I have them and I'll be long gone before they need to be re-roofed or re-flashed.It breaks up that side of the place nicely and gives it more of a Cottage look.

If it's your place ,do what you like.

It looks like you have more sq/ft in the porches than the interior,I like the way the wrap around porch makes a smaller house look bigger.

We just finished this "Cottage".It has the same 3 story exposure on the lake side.I hope it will look better when the white rails are installed on the deck, and break up the height a little.
We used the Vinyl shakes which also helped for bringing down the tallness of this wall.

I figure your brick wall is for this purpose?Stone may look real nice.
