Right now the block side of the stair well there is about 2 1/4" gap between the stairs and concrete. So i was going to attach 2 x 2 and foam insulation, drywall. That wall is under the garage. The entire basement is completely underground. So there is already the foam insulation on the outside.

Its a program called solidworks. It has its own rendering, but i am looking into 3rd party rendering software. I would like to start to do more of these, but i feel the renders need a little more in them (beyond what i can do this software). As for the floor plan i exported it to autocad. Its easier to draw it 1:1 and change your scales in there for this type of work.

Hi, very cool basement, I hope you don't mind I used it to do a couple of raytraces in Chief using Pov-Ray and one in Kerkythea.

The Kerky one was way faster than Pov-ray but I think they both look good.

Does SolidWorks have specific architectural tools like walls or doyu have to make solids to represent walls, stairs and such?

Thanks.

Andy.

The bottom one was raytraced in Pov-Ray with Anti-aliasing on medium and low radiosity. Both are using the default light source.

Pov-Ray is a free stand-alone rendering program as well as being bundled with Chief. The stand-alone can take advantage of multiple cores in the CPU for really fast renders. Kerkythea is also a free download and it is easier to use and you have more controle of the out-put.

Solidworks is mechanical design software. Their rendering is not the best. some of the wood grain look like crap.

The reason i chose to use this to solid model was to create a 3d layout for the "old lady". Seeing just a top view of it she was like whats that?? With the solid model, i would calculate exactly how much lumber to buy. I have been building this by myself with no help so i would do one wall, then another. The other thing is i am paying cash for it all so i am doing it in steps. As of right now i think i only have about 3 extra 2 x 4's.

I was looking into some of those free rendering softwares. I may have to try one.

PS: The look great. Makes mine look like crap!!
