Squirrels Eating Through Siding

Squirrels made a nest in the wall cavity last year. This year we replaced the louvered vent, installing chicken wire under it to deter the squirrels from going through the louvers. Instead they decided to remove the entire vent. Any recommendations on getting rid of them for next year? Will they nest somewhere else and not come back here?

A squirrel relocation program! A live trap and a bus ticket to FL

I did a roof repair a few years ago where squirrels had chewed through the comp roofing, tar paper, and osb to make a nest in the soffit. What a vile mess...

Wow. A lawn chair and a .22 rifle?

Cut some trees down and make it difficult for them to get there. You might try one of those ultrasonic noisemakers to discourage them. That helped us out with flying squirrels.

BB gun is already being used. They also ate through the wires at the transformer and took the power out twice.

You need lethal, not annoying. Probably not viable in your case, but living in the woods here, we always have 3-4 cats roaming at will. Squirrels find life a bit easier if they don't hang out too close to the house.

Re: Squirrels Eating Through Siding

Sounds like you need to make an example of a squirrel. Shoot one and tack it to the wall as a warning to the others of what will befall them if they keep on chewing...

This is in the woods. The last barn cat had to be put down, and the 2 replacements will be out in the spring.

The BB gun took care of 3 but they were not the culprits.

Re: Squirrels Eating Through Siding

I have a trap that is set up when the squirrels become too many. over the last few years I have moved over 25 squirrels to my step sons grave site, approx 6 miles from my house.

Right now we seem to have only 2 or 3 around.

My wife likes to use rat poison, but don't get caught with that......

Re: Squirrels Eating Through Siding

Sqirkles are very damaging and relentless they willeat anything and die trying.

I had some go through vents but I spray painted the chicken wire and formed it over the outside of the vent and used the ring of the mid america to hold it on. Didnt look bad from the ground and it stopped it.

Cant do anything about wires but tree limbs should be cut away from the house. They may make a scented spray that will help discourage them.

Re: Squirrels Eating Through Siding

looks like you need to trap them and relocate them you should upgrade to 1/4'" galvanized hardwear cloth instead of the chicken wire.
