D/B,
I had a mole problem too. Forget the pellets, traps and all the other gimmicks, they don't work worth a damn. Here's how you catch them, it takes some patience but is very rewarding. Take your foot and mash all the tunnels flat. Then pull up a chair, sit, and watch (very quietly). Within 10 minutes or so they will start to re-build their tunnels. You'll see the grass being pushed up as they move along. Take 2 shovels and shove one into the ground behind the mole; this prevents him from backing up. Take the other one shove it into the ground about a foot ahead of the other one, and pop the little sucker out of the ground. Once he's out of the ground the method of disposal is strictly personal. Hope this helps. Wudbtcher

The moles are there to eat the grubs (most likely) living in the grass roots. Poison the grubs, do it twice a year. After a while the moles will leave for lack of food. Keep poisoning or the grubs, and moles, will return.

When I was a kid about I would take care of the gophers in our yard by digging up one of their holes and then take my trusty 22 and just wait for them to stick their head up and blam ...course I did live on a ranch sooo might not work for you...

Call a pest control company that is licenced to take care of gophers thay might be able to use a product called fumitoxin on the moles works really well on gophers and the product disperses with in 24 hours.

I'm having problems too and my cat that caught them has long since died, that was about the only thing that she was good for.

Watch the posion if your on a well, it will seep into the groundwater and eventually, you.

If you can deal with it, step on the mounds to find their main tunnels and then use spike traps that will kill them. Moles are VERY sensitive to vibration, it's how they find their food (think about how much noise a grub makes). Buy some of the kid toy windmill things, they cost about $.25 - .50 and stick them near the tunnels. Move as required.

I'm a hunter so removing an impaled subterranian rat doesn't bother me at all and those little windmills may look stupid but they do work. A few years ago we found some that look like flamingos with 'wings' that were actually 4" propeller blades. They were a little more expensive but fit in better with our South Florida landscape.

I still have a few and I'm still after them if they're where I don't want them. There are certain areas where they are beneficial.

You have to look lower than 'possums. Moles make a little humped trail through your yard as they dig around. Here, their active trails are only a few inches deep but go deeper to reproduce. Think of a rat designed to dig tunnels.

Moles feed on grubs in the soil. If you get rid of the grubs the moles will leave. So go to home depot/southern states/ect and buy a grub killer lawn treatment. problem gone in 3 weeks.

Look up Milkyspore. I'm not sure if it is one word or two. But anyway, it is a bacteria that the grubs eat and spread the bacteria. Take the food source away, ie the grubs and the moles will go elsewhere. Only downside is that it takes a couple of applications to work and it isn't cheap. the plus side is that its not a toxic product and once done twice or so the effects last like ten years.

Trapping is the most effective way to rid moles. We use Victor out-o-sight traps with very good success. Sometimes we use a poisen called Taliprid.

We have moles here in Maine but they're smaller than mice. My wife and I moved to WA state after getting married. I came home one day and my wifes like "why the **** did you put a pile of dirt there?"

Then we saw Ed Hume on TV one day yard one out with a trap and my wife and I just about **** at how big they are.

Teetor said it perfectly......think rat....big rat!

This was just discussed here not too long ago-just do a search. I have used that grub killer & everything else under the sun-They don't work! The grub killer justy works for a little while-thats why it says "control" on the bags. Here are some Pics of some of my yard this spring-
Well in the last post-someone said to put juicy fruit gum in there holes/tunnels- so I did & guess what -they are all gone !!! Dead I guess-I don't care- it works & it only cost 50 cents !!!!
You can google this method & find out it isn't bull ! Moles be Gone!!!!

I too have mole problems. My problem is I have a corn field 15 ft off my back yard and I can see the tunnels where they go to the field. No matter what I do they just move for awhile then come back. I did however find the coolest thing while I was searching the net for suggestions. Its called the Rodenator, this thing is cool as hell. Check out some of the video on the site, www.rodenator.com I'm affraid to use one because I'm on a septic system and my luck I'd blow up my system.

You can kill the grubs but moles love worms too. I have tried everything and the only way I have found to rid them is the ole trap. Takes many hours to figure out how to trap, watch your fingers but it works. Been a few years but mine are back .

Mole Control

Earthworms are the main diet of moles. Grubs are a second. Talprid by Bell Labs are your best bet behind the rodentnater. Check tunnels and flag tunnels that you flatten with your heel of shoe. Try and choose main runs. mounds of dirt flatten by stepping on them. check back within 24 hours. Active runs will be repaired take a 3/8" to 1/2" dia rod and find tunnel and insert talprid worm and step on tunnel to cave in when mole repairs tunnel it will find worm and eat your done. Note: We use flags to mark flattened and baited tunnels to make sure the bait is gone it works..

First, you have julie come and mark utilities, second, you strategically place explosives along ALL tunnels, third, you consume alcoholic beverages, fourth you wait (still consuming alcoholic beverages), fifth, you see the tunnel move and detonate BOOM no more moles, or nosy neighbors as they think "wonder what that crazy drunk SOB is gonna do to us"

I havent tried this yet but this was on the local news story a few days ago. They had some mole expert on and he said that if you smash the tunnels down in your yard and get a hose out and saturate the ground, then the worms will come to the surface and instinctively the moles will follow. And then you can dispose any way you seem viable. I personally use a shovel.
