My dream is to own one of those, a Porsche, and be a demolition contractor.

Re: Ground Bees

Ahh... the joy of buzzing little flying around! Just a short while ago, we experienced this same problem.

You can't do what I did due to the location of the hole. I burned them out. It was really nice having a vertical torch coming out of my front yard.

Waited until it was dark, poured in gasoline (well, a lot of it 'cause I was pissed), and lit her up.

Bees, sod, and parts of a nearby tree are gone...
Well worth it though.

Do not do this for your nest looks too close to the house.

Re: Ground Bees

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd love to use the gas method in a second, hell I'd use racing gas and light it but it's next to a wood retaining wall.

I think I'll go with the powder idea.

PS BOB: I'd figure I would have gotten a more constructive idea from our resident crazy beer-drinking' German landscaper.

Re: Ground Bees

My trade is landscaping, not pest control. Most of my knowledge of how to deal with pests is incidental and anecdotal. However I would suggest making their home uninhabitable. Either through chemicals, fire, flooding, or bury the bastards alive.

Just kidding Bob. I liked your post. I thought you might have a lot of experience with the buggers in your line of work.

Does being stung count as experience?

Wood retaining walls are so 80's chic. Burn em out and rebuild. Something Belgard would look good in there.

works and is not harmful to plants or pets. Dump some into an empty squirt bottle . Very effective.

Bob, what Belgard?

I'm moving up in the world, my wife thinks I'm stuck in the 70's.

Re: Ground Bees

I'd probably go with Belgard Celtik 135's, depending on what the exterior of the house looks like.

Re: Ground Bees

Thanks Bob I already Googled it. Pavers. Yeah I work with wood for the most part and just went with that about 5 years ago. I don't have any before pics handy but something had to be done quick. Every time it rained water would run down that road, down the grade that sloped to the foundation and settled in the basement. Another reason I went with wood is that I wasn't sure about the total height I could retain. The pic doesn't show but there are several walls before the house. Don't have much room to the road. We live on a lake and the properties are small.

But if it makes you feel better I made the seawall out of natural stone. Is that chic 80's or new millennium mod?

Pretty terrible pic of the wall, sorry.

Re: Ground Bees

Whoa there Richie Rich, do your customers know you're inflating rates to have waterfront property?
Don't you know contractors are supposed to be poor, doing jobs for materials and beer.

Here's a hardscape product I've been dying to use:

www.cactustile.com

It's called blended glass. Stunningly gorgeous and stunningly expensive. No takers yet.

I'd call that stone wall Nouveau Civil War Chic.
