Camel Crickets??

Anyone know of a way to get rid of these nasty cricket/grasshopper looking type of bugs ----short of calling an exterminator? I have a few, but my neighbor has them REAL bad !

Thanks!
Lance

Re: Camel Crickets??

They are harmless and only live in damp areas. Your neighbor has a water problem. Get rid of the damp, and they will move on.

Re: Camel Crickets??

Never heard of them. What are they? Similar to our 'mole crickets'?

Re: Camel Crickets??

We have crickets bad around here.

I spread insect killer around my entire yard with a rotary spreader. I then spray a heavy dose of insect filler around the perimeter of my house.

get rid of the moisture in the home/if their is a crawlspace seal off all the dirt floor and vents then install a humidex to remove all the moisture then no more crickets or any other bugs/slab house just install a humidex ventilation system

Re: Camel Crickets??

I had these critters in my basement for a long time till I started working in this field and learned a little about them. Find a way to get this area as dry as possible. My basement did not have much ventilation and during the rainy seasons we would have a bit of water seepage get into basement. Wherever we had boxes or stuff stacked up in corners the moisture level would stay higher and they loved to stay back there. Removing boxes or items away from walls and keeping area ventilated and dry is probably the best bet.

Thumbs up

Re: Camel Crickets??

We use a liquid or granular treatment to the the soil in the summer April-July Ohio area. South March to May for the spring flight. They burrow down in the soil about 12" and since they are nocturnal they come up to feed at night. They will eat clothing and plant roots other organic matter and are serious pest of turf grass. As the earlier post stated try and dry up the basement.. If all else fails you will have to find a labeled pesticide to treat with.. Good Luck
