Vapor Barrier?

I am a contractor visiting from Alaska to remodel my sisters home up the canyon. In Alaska we swear by a 6mil vapor barrier on walls and lid yet the guy at the builders supply store warned me against it. Up the canyon we are at 8700 feet and certainly a cold (albeit arid) climate. What do you guys do? I was planning on R-19 walls and R-30 lid (ISO foam), both with vapor barrier.Can I proceed as planned?

I would not recommend a vapor barrier in the ceiling. as for the walls an R-19 or R-22 blow in blanket would work with a 6 mil poly. Your attic should have at least an R-48 good luck;

Did I miss the part that said where your remodelign project is? "Up the canyon" doesn't narrow it down much for me.
