Get in line to pat the Iowegians on the back

I got my REC (rural electric coop) magazine today and there was an article saying that Iowa tops the list of Energy Star homes built in 2008 @ 64%. Nevada was 2nd with 63% and Hawaii third at 54%.

I'm tongue in cheek on this because I think some other states have programs which are more stringent than Energy Star. However, 64% is a good number and I built 3 of them and remodeled some others to meet the standards, so I think it's a good program.

Nationwide the average was 17%, but that was up from 12% in 2007. The rebates here make it a no-brainer but even without them it's beyond me why anyone would build any other way.
