Will Paint Thinner Get Paint Off A Leather Chair?

One of my guys got paint on a leather chair (spraying inside is probably not too smart, but covering up the chair completely shouldn't be too hard).

What do you guys use to get paint off places like this?

If I were you, I would QUICKLY find the BEST upholstry cleaning company in your area and get 'em there as quickly as they can.

I wouldn't even ask for a quote, I think...

I do not get paint in places like this.
Do a test spot in an a undetectable spot with oops, or goof off first. If you start rubbing paint thinner all over a persons chair they will not be pleased. With remodel work it is often best to do it old school. spraying inside some ones house is a difficult thing without a lot of time consuming precautions. By the time you take all those precautions plus clean up. You could of got a lot done with a brush and a roller.

!!!!

I'd also strongly recommend revising your policy on spraying in occupied re-paints

That overspray can whip upstairs when someone turns on an exhaust vent in the john up there and get all over the Mrs.'s Ralf Lauren bath curtains

If there's no furniture, that's another story

Remarks such as this is just another thing that gives the painting trade a bad reputation. While the vast majority of painters are reputable and honest, it only takes a relative few to make it hard for the rest.

Don't you think he was just saying it tongue in cheek? That's how I understood it anyway.

Solvent can dissolve the color in the leather!

Not the way I took it. I can see a remodeler saying something like that, or a bad bussiness man. I was brought up with more respect than to think that. If I had said it it woulda been followed by.... or .

Years ago working for my dad we were recovering a table for someone, and their slate was broke on their pool table. We didn't realize it till we got the cloth off. My dad was pissed.....more at himself for not noticing it before hand. Rather than trying to explain what was up, or even bothering to tell the people.....he just told them there was a problem. Then we got an old slate from the shop and altered it to fit this old POS and replaced it. At the time I thought he was crazy cause we basically did the job and lost money. He paid me and just ate the loss. But looking back it's called pride and integrity.

Seriously though, you can't deny something like that. The fresh paint on the chair is proof that you did it

FWIW-
I remember years ago painting a family room and another 'utlity' type room for an elderly couple. The color was actually different enough that it was obvious. That was a Friday. We came back Monday morning to finish up and my two guys were standing out in the driveway waiting for me when I pulled up. They told me the customer accused them of getting paint on the sides of the cabinets where they cut it in, next to the scribe molding! I went in and got the customer and pointed out that the color that was on the scribe was NOT EVEN CLOSE to the color we had put on! It was obvious to me that she was nearly blind! I just couldn't convince her. I told the guys to get the drops and tools and we were going to leave. I told her she did not owe me a thing, that she could HAVE the paint job! Then I cooled off a minute or so outside and went back in and gave a small discount and moved on.

LESSON: I ALWAYS point out where there is paint ALREADY on areas it's not suppost to be BEFORE we paint. It saves a lot of potential conflicts...

Did you try using a damp cloth? Is it latex paint? Then use leather conditioner to make sure it's treated and in good condition.

How much paint is on there? 1/2 gal.?

Honestly, if it's splatter, that sucks. If it's some large drips, and they didn't get wiped yet, just peel them off. If it's paint that was wiped when wet, a thorough job with a damp cloth should do it.

Hardest thing in the world is to see a big drop of paint on something and just leave it. A large drop is so much eaiser to peel off a hard surface.

If it's splatter, that sucks.

When cabinets are installed there is a small or larger gap between them and the wall, or ceiling, that needs to be covered up. That's where a thin piece of trim is used...

Latex > start with H2O ... if that doesn't work ... Fantastic or 409 ... if that doesn't work ... alcohol ... then leather conditioner.

Oil > try the thinner ... then leather conditioner ... then have a little fun with your power washer before you call your insurance guy.
