Re: Why Is Latex Paint Peeling??
Thanks for the info. I have used the Peel Stop from Zinnser and have found it effective with peeling. Goes on clear and a gallon will take you a long way. It's probably similar to Gardz.

Re: Why Is Latex Paint Peeling??
Hey..this is great, some very good ideas and talk!! I have run into same things here in Canada.I usually use a good quality high hide oil.I found that latex has a reaction with old coatings also..sometimes in bathrooms I tell customer(if no fan present) that they cant use shower for 2 or 3 days before I come so moisture doesnt become a factor,so they use the bath only or another shower in the house..then I use my moisture meter to check condition..oil drives moisture out..I will roll oil first and leave cutting in for last..the moisture can escape around the edges prior to cutting in..seems to work this way..havent had a problem in 15 years of doing it this way...

Re: Why Is Latex Paint Peeling??
So it's what everyone has been saying from the start. Dust under the paint. Not yours but the original paint over the patches. Changing which paint you use will not make the problem go away. You need to remove all of the old paint that is failing. Prime the patches. Skim coat it. prime it again. Then apply finish coats.

Re: Why Is Latex Paint Peeling??
Hey Sparehair...it seems to work out this way..I figure the moisture is migrating outward this way repelled by the oil looking for a place to leave. Its working so this is what I do,forcing moisture to the edges, again it could have no effect and you can be sceptical..moisture could still be there and finds another way out, good point!! As for the glazing,I have always used oil primer over top but not right off..I let it sit for weeks then go back,I let putty dry for a while or the brush will move it when its fresh..what do you do?....Paul
