Where Do You Get Rid Of Old Paint?

I have a huge amount of paint left over from the years. I've called around and my county charges 3 dollars per gallon. I live in Seattle WA.

Thanks

Jay

I always leave leftover paint with the customer, unless its a stock color that I buy in bulk and will use somewhere else.

Disposal depends upon the state/county regulations. Here in StL county, you can open cans of latex, let them dry hard, and dispose of them in the average trash or landfill. Oil or alkyds must be sopped up with an absorbent medium such as kitty litter and can only be disposed of at certain places specified by the county on certain days of the year.

Check you local regulations. Shouldn't have to pay to get rid of them properly (and quit hoarding ).

use you old plastic or tarps lay them out in your yard or drive way pour the old paint out on them and spread it out , let it dry all the way then take it to the dump.its a bit tricky to do and keep a cleen yard its almost worth just buying a large roll of plastic to use, and be carefull if you have grass in your yard it will die under the plastic. dave out

I just dump mine down the sewer. I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I have a good relationship with a local hardware shop and I just give it to him. He probably dumps it down the sewer

If you leave the lid off and let it dry, it's ok for the trash. Otherwise, use it as a first coat when painting your own house - it's stil good paint.

Like mgraveman says, you should be able to use it for base coats. If you mix it all together you'll usually end up with grey. Shelf life is usually 2-3 years.
