I have a 13 hp honda that puts out 4000 psi, and I can see the difference it makes on surfaces. In fact, I think every time I use it, that is a lot of dirt coming off that paint would not stick to. So, if the surface is not relatively new, I would use it when I can.

Aspen, we clean every exterior before painting. Not all surfaces really need 2500 psi to get them clean. For example a home that is in really good condition. We apply a chemical to the entire house then wash. If everything is in good shape we just use the pressure washer as a REALLY POWERFUL garden hose. It just rinses the surface so quickly and efficiently that using just a hose seems silly.

Some folks don't like pressure washers and the damage they can cause, but if its done right theres no better more efficient way to clean.
