What Would You Bid

This guy from this school district keeps calling even though we never call him back to setup something. We took a look at the project which is a 100 year old school that has failing painting on the white trim at the top...The school is about 100 ft long 50 ft wide. all the white needs to be painted.

If he keeps calling us everyone else must not be calling him back like us...

Im thinking of just bidding a number like $15k for the hell of it. Thinking that is way above what others would bid. But im starting to think that is a good price for the job.

Here are some pictures what would you guys want $$$$ ????

Re: What Would You Bid

Just curious, why dont you want the job? I hear they pay well.

If you seriously dont want the job, would you consider forwarding my contact to him?

I could strip the paint with my Soda blasting Equipment and paint.

I am located in NY.

Thanks
Rich

Re: What Would You Bid

I couldn't say what I'd bid w/o seeing it
15K sounds high, but what's in the way....or is it lead paint or something?

If you don't want it though, I'll take a ride and check it out

Re: What Would You Bid

sry here is a picture

All the white needs to be done. Im hoping a 60 ft boom can reach the top...

The lift runs at like $2000 per 40 hours

There is about 250 ft of the white trim that goes around the building...

I have never painted anything like this...

Lead paint could be an issue...

All thing needs to be brushed and rolled sparying is NOT possible here

...not the tower and the windows?
Just the molding?

Also, what's on the ground?
Stuff in the way? Trees? Monkey Bars?
Set up some scaffold no prob?

Is it registered Historical or anything?

Unusual insurance or union requirements as it's a town thing?
School occupied and in use during work? (summer school, art class, playground...anything)

Re: What Would You Bid

We would be painting it when schools out. There is parking lot around the whole thing so we can drive the boom lift around it. Im thinking 2 guys 1-2 weeks with a brush and small roller. No special insurance needed

No windows just the white moulding and steaple

I'm thinking...your off with your time, if done correctly. The price seems ok. Looks like a bunch of prep. You make it sound like it's only painting. Have you taken a boom lift to the top to really see what's going on (this is crucial to bid the job). It's 100 years old, no offense, but you're putting your name on it-you need to make it last and it's a school! It needs to be lead free during all phases.

Have you done a lead test?
Have you thought of subbing it out?

It's somewhat straight forward, but you sound too casual about how you'll go about it.

2 cents more broker

Re: What Would You Bid

It will have to be tested for lead at their expense before a bid could be submitted
Unless they can produce paperwork that says it's clean

Lot's of prep on this one
It's a lot of scrape sand and primer before any paint gets applied

Being able to use the boom lift all they way is awesome, but it'll still be time consuming, that trim's got a little wacky tooth thing goin' on

You could be correct that nobody wants to touch it
It's a lot of messy prep

It also could be that they need 3 bids to move on something...even if the Superintendent's Bro-In-Law is going to get it anyway...lol
(not that I think that's it, but sometimes that is the case)

If it's lead, or there's no proof it's not, it's gonna be really time consuming
And the liability being in a school with lots of litigation-loving parents....
(they are all sue-happy these days)

That's basically it right now, they need to let you know if it's lead
"I don't think so" doesn't cut it
If they say "No", then ask to see the paperwork proving it

If there's nothing or it's unknown, then they should pay for you to bring the lift over, scrape, and have samples tested, before any bids are submitted

They will need the info for other contractors anyway, if you end up not bidding...or not getting it
