What size roller covers?

I went shopping for new rollers (my 1/2 lambskins were properly taken care of, so they lived a short life). I moved up to the 3/4 lambskin for the job.

Only I noticed alot of mopping I had to work out, and what looked to be a bit of brush marks from the roller.

I also noticed some of the walls, it seems like one edge of the roller ran out of paint leaving funky lines that I didn't noticed right away.

Lucky the next day in the daylight I saw it and did a another quick coat.

Do you think its the size that was the problem (didn't have it with the 1/2")? Or is it the lambskin (some guys at the paint store says it not for water based paint, while I've heard painters swear by it)?

The other roller I've tried was the white doves from purdy. I didn't like them, they didn't seem to get enough paint on them, but maybe thats cause I was using 3/8"s.

I swear by them. I love a brand new lamb roller. The 3/4 are a little thick on the first use, they settle down after that.

One reason I like them is because you can "rope" with them if necessary or you can back roll and control the height of the finish on the wall. You can make the 3/4 finish look like a 1/2 or 3/8 using that method.

As far as getting more paint on one end, that's the natural way all rollers work.

If you use even pressure on the roller, more paint will come off the side where the arm for the frame is. That's universal.

Hope this helps.

Whos this metamoya you are talking about?

Ya, I don't backroll as much as I should. It wasn't that bad, it was just two walls really out of 5 rooms.

I'm thinking I should stick to 1/2" for now. Where I live there is a lot of knockdown texture, thats why I got the 3/4".

What do you mean by "rope"?

I use 3/4" for pretty much everything. Wooster 50/50's. Got the feel/action of a lambswool, at half the price. And last for a loooong time if properly taken care of.

A rope is a heavy ridge [line] of paint caused by uneven pressure or force when rolling a surface...

LMAO, I knew someone would mention the tracks.

Woz described a rope, roping is when you roll so fast that it leaves tracks and the nap pattern is more pronounced.

If someone calls you a cowboy, you're roping. It's a loose term.

I use 1/2 almost all the time--usually purdy or something comprable

It's all about the surface though, it's obvious to go with a thicker nap on something textured...
