Don – “I do all this and more”.
What else do you do? I’d like to know in regards to giving information within a quote. Thanks.

Re: What % Of People Turn Down Your Estimate?

* Are you giving them a comprehensive list of items in the quote?
* Are you giving them a list of references of previous jobs you have done?
* Are you giving them a profile of you and your company with a spill (is this spelt right? ) about yourself? Resume?
* Are you giving a short precise covering letter?
* Are you giving them a clear plain and easy to understand quote?

I give them our 2 year written warrentee info.

I give them a "paint contractor comparison form"

I give them a "comparing apples to apples" letter that explains how to compare our quote to the competetions.

And even after having given them all this it rarely makes a differance when it comes to my price being at least 30% higher than most of my "competetion".

1.move furniture to middle and cover with plastic
2.remove all ceiling vents
3.scrape off all popcorn
4.Patch spots that were dinged in the process
5.Float out if needed on areas
6.sand smoth and slick
7.vac up and clean up from scraping and sanding
8.1 coat bonding primer
9.2 coats cashmere low lustre (per customer choice)
10.put vents back up
11.clean up, remove drops, plastic
12.vac area again
13.place furniture back in original order
14. bend over as I get paid(oh yeah that is a gimmie with every job if a homeonwer has their way)

Needless to say they can keep their low ball work. Their comment was that they saw this done before on flip this or flip that house. The one with the SC boys. I actually like watch that show , but it is not in real life as it seems.

Those shows can not be real, I would like to really see the bottom line on what they spent to make that kind of profit. I stopped watching those shows they drive me nuts

Dave,
The million dollar question is in what length of time do you give those 10 estimates? Does your phone ring 10 times weekly even during the slow season?

Then they said "I thought it would just be like 80 to 100 dollars."

I just slapped my head (not really). The worst part is they were way out of the way (i thought they were really close from the direction the wife was giving me, but once I called to clarify I talked to the husband, and it turned out to be way out there).

I think I'm gonna start giving ballpark estimates of a small room and a big room so they can have an idea of what they are getting into. I never did before, cause it never was a problem before. I think the economy in this area is in a big slump.

Anyone else give ballpark estimates before you spend all that time going out there?

I like to close around 30% Much higher and I worry my price is too low, much lower and I worry I will not be able to keep working. As far as a ball park figure I do not like the idea. If you say $300 to $500 they hear $300. Then you show up and it is more work then you pictured and the price comes in at $700 now you are over double what they expected. I like them to here my proposal as to what I will be doing before they hear the price.

I was lucky in regards to the slow season, i was already booked all the way through it,

Nope wish it did, i did 16 total est in jan, wich total was $38,315, and sold 11,570 wich was five jobs total wich make the avg job $2,314.
