What Kind Of Finish To Put On Fir Beaded Ceiling And Clear Pine Fascia?

I have a customer who wants us to install a fir ceiling and redo all of his soffit and fascia with the fir and clear pine. He mentioned that he doesn't want to stain the boards, he just wants a clear pat and for it to look natural. Can anyone recommend a good product to use and also how many coats would be needed for that product. Also, I have about 3500 linear feet of board to coat, so I am also looking for suggestions on the most efficient way to apply the finish. I am open to spraying or just doing it by hand. Just interested in what everyone else suggests! Thanks in advance!

If non-finish type 8x2" boards are used as facia, he'd better hand select the ones to be used. Boards like that used as facia aren't usually stained due to weathering, splitting, etc. Not to mention that they don't look that beautiful clear coated.

Not sure where you're located, but you should be able to find a few descent penetrating oil-based stains. TWP, Bakers, Armstrong Clark, even Ready Seal. Specific coat requirements predicated on exact product choice. You might caution your customer that keeping the facias a natural color will result in grey wood within a few years at most. It's the pigment in stains that act as the sacrificial barrier. No pigment = no barrier. The soffets, ya, you could get away with going natural on them.

Spray & back-brush is what I'd do.

I too would caution that the boards will turn grey under the clear finish.
