What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

Maybe it's already been discussed (probably) but I would like to know to the penny exactly what everyone else is paying for their Ben Moore products...... I've been told my store is expensive, but I don't know
It's the only store I've had......let me see if I can find a slip.......

Auburn / Massachusettes
O.K...... Moorglo Latex house & Trim Pastel base
(ivory Tusk) creme ...... 1 gallon
retail $41.99 dicount 29.46% unit price $29.62
Total cost: $31.10
My savings $12.37

Now I'm not cutting my store up..... I've got more free t-shirts than I can where in a year (got 5 more yesterday)... just got invited to a Mondaynite contractors appreciation party...and am getting a free Ben Moore jacket.

But.. if I'm paying too much... than I'm paying too much....

Please everyone list your city / state and cost like I did
so we can all see what we are really paying.

I just bought a gallon of Moorglo White, stock color.
I paid $30.05. Sounds like you are in the ballpark with my cost for it.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

i hardly deal with BM because they are so exzpensive and no better then the rest, my main gripe is the charge for colorant!!!!!!!!and non of the others do. I pretty much wont use them unless made to.

None of it is free, you (the customer) are paying for it. I'm sure you can find a cheaper price for the paint (PWG is a $1/gal less) but what about the service you get from the store?

I guess I am getting taken at 33.55/gal for pastel base, but I do not use a ton of it anyway, usually use Graham or California (I have the stupid alkyd fortified stuff, if I was oil in it, I will buy oil.)

I pay 41.99 plus tax for a gallon of BM TopLine. Any other store in town would charge me about $28-34 for thier topline. These are Canadian Prices.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

As far as charging for colorant, you pay it at all stores, some of them charge say the equivalent of a deep base price for all the bases instead of haveing pastels cheaper and accent or neutral bases more.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

We get most of our paint from a dealer that always gets the colour perfect,
puts a small dab of colour on top of each can, labels every can according to our faxed colour schedule(which rooms they go to),
and even deliver when necessary.
In addition, they are our trade reference and give us a few leads.
In turn, I never question their pricing (customer pays for it).
How can we expect to charge top dollar for our services and nickel & dime the paint store?

I agree, I get the same thing with my BM store, 1-3 leads a week.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

I agree with George Z.

I don't charge the lowest prices, and I don't expect the lowest prices from my vendors. I deliver good service, and that's what I want from my vendors. I even tell them that. I want them to make money on me, because they will then value me as a customer. I treat my customers differently than the typical contractor, and I treat my vendors differently as well.

I continue to be amazed at contractors who complain about DIYers who mess up a paint job, and then want to make their own signs. Or they complain about customers who won't pay for quality, but then complain when their paint costs go up 2%.

Don't be a hypocrite. If you want to make money, respect the same desire in others. If you don't like what they offer, vote with your pocketbook.

And truth be told, if you are marking up your materials like you should be, an increase in material costs actually results in more profit. (I also share this with my vendors.) I consider my vendors to be partners.

this theory has saved me more money in the long run, than it ever cost me by not nickle and diming my vendors.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

I actually buy all my supplies from my local paint store whenever possible. I could save some by getting lacquer from another store and getting tape, caulk, etc from SW but I am happy with my paint store, they give me a few referrals, and are overall a good group of people.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

Just moved to Austin TX, where BM interior paint (premium, Navajo White, for example) runs between 36 and 42 a gallon before contractor's discount of 10%.

In Boston (City Paint, Mass Ave, Cambridge) the same gallon is 26.

I don't know what happens to the paint when they ship it south, but it gets a lot more expensive along the way. I won't use BM down here unless the customer insists. It's good, but no better than Behr at Home Depot.

Don't use BM much, don't use Mooreglo, but 1 gallon of super hide costs me 12.79.

Re: What Do You Pay For Benjamin Moore?

Yeah my BM dealer is well worth it for Quality, I will pay any amount for the name that BM stands for.
They sell Coronado SuperKote INTERIOR for $16.97 ($27.30retail)
verynice paint
But that service is another that is worth the extra bucks
They gave my name to a big PaintContractor that I am Subing for on the side--Hey that works! so Like I said a couple bucks more might be worth it in the long run, esp. for your warranty's too.

Really, if BM was 80 bucks a gallon, i'd still use it. I'd just charge the HO 90 in the job.

speaking of BM.
Do any of you remember a paint called "Hardwear" it was made by Benjamin Moore

that was best stuff

I just paid 27 and change per gallon of the matte . Less 5%.

Aquapearl stock color 28.49, less 5%
