what are the best ways to advertise and/or get work?.

I am a painting contractor in norcal and I have an ad in the yellow pages and in a local magazine here and Im getting no calls. I have been in business for 3 years and have never had this happen. If anybody knows of a good way to generate work please let me know.

Door to door flyers. custom business cards with pictures, whore yourself out to every paint compzny in town, I've done all that with no results!

Out of area or out of state projects seem to be the only thing moving right now. Sorry.

There are many thread topics covering this if you would like to use the search function, or just keep on backtracking through the Marketing And Sales SubForum until you find the topic that can help.

Ditto on the no calls/response to advertising.
ZERO.

Solution?

Call everyone you know.
Start at the beginning of the list, and head towards the end.

Go out, somewhere, anywhere, where things are happening, and talk to people. There are few solutions at home, or in the office.

Go see people with money. At least say hello.

Don't read the newspaper or watch TV !

We quit wasting money on yellow page ads years ago- they only work in certain economies. Ditto with mags. The absolute best way to generate leads is to either send out full color post cards to wealthy neighborhoods or get door hangers printed up and hung on doors. We use a local company that charges only $500 to distribute 5000 door hangers. That's direct targeting and gets right in front of them.

Put an offer on it- a reason for them to call now...

If you don't want to pay for distribution, go house to house yourself or pay some high school kids- but there's no guarantee they will finish...

What part of the Bay Area? We've been painting here for 24+ years and have an excellent reputation. Most of our work centers around Piedmont, Berkeley, Oakland Hills, Orinda, Lafayette, Moraga, Alamo, Danville and Blackhawk.

We'd love to be added to your Bid list to have an opportunity to bid on your projects if you're looking in these areas... Click on our link to see some of our work.

Careful- it's actually considered a crime to stuff anything in a mailbox, whether they bug you about it or not.

The local company we use is an offshoot of a local Christian ministry, I believe. I'll call and check if they do this anywhere else as I think it is a national ministry.

I'll let you know what I find out...

Have you considered painting apartments? I realize that this may be a lower end prospect, but it may keep the bills paid until something better comes along. I sent out some 50 letters late last Nov. and had one response that kept me busy. It is a lower paid job, but there are few disruptions, and little interference.

Happy Painting, Paul.
