Volatile Organic Compounds

Do any of your customers ever ask for low v.o.c. paints? If they don't, do you recommend them?
Do you worry about breathing in the fumes everyday?

Re: Volatile Organic Compounds

If they ask me for VOC's I'd tell them to contact a chemist, we're currently behind in the lab.

As far as breathing fumes......I think my statement above says it all.

Fumes are cool.

Bob...That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry gets his car back from the valet service. The smell of B.O. off the lot guy was so bad he had to sell it.

Yes, most do.
When they don't, we recommend them.

Re: Volatile Organic Compounds

The Eco Freindly paints are fine BUT... are not available in ALL colors...

Also, if you want a "custom color" the liquid pigments have VOC's in them... so by getting a "custom" color "almost" defeats the purpose of "Eco Freindly" or "Low VOC's"...

The "stock" colors are another thing......

I'm speaking from a user of Benjamin Moore's Eco Spec...

Are other Brands the same?

Re: Volatile Organic Compounds

Ecospec will only do base 2.
PPG's Pure performance comes in all bases, but you are right,
colourants add VOC to paint.
But adding colourants does not defeat the purpose of low VOC Paint
If you add 25gr to a litter of paint that has 0 VOC,
is not the same as adding 25gr to a litter that has 150 gr.(150+25=175)
Farrow & Ball has clay based colourants mixed in the paint(no tinting bases). Very expensive though.
The new Benjamin Moore Aura should utilize a different colouring system,
I think very similar to the C2 system. But Aura will be very expensive as well.
Price of paint is not a concern for us as customers will be told
and know what they are buying.

Re: Volatile Organic Compounds

Thanks for the info George...

I understand that adding pigments doesnt "Totally" defeat the Low VOC... however my thought is that it is not a "TRUE" Low VOC by adding pigment... Did I make sense?

Its not a noticable difference (as far as fumes)...
