Very Old Claps

While normally I only do inside colonial era restoration, in this economy, who's turning down work? I'm getting ready to strip the front of a customer's house and repaint. The claps are very old and weathered to the point of being fragile in places. Customer would not go for expense of new claps. I'm thinking of getting the Rockwell Sonic tool for scraping, particularly in the corners where claps meet cornerboards and there is the most buildup of old paint. Has anyone had success with this tool in the scraping application?
Also, any other suggestions for removal of 200 years worth of paint?
Any best chemical strippers out there?
Thanks

Re: Very Old Claps

I purchased a shaver last year for strip job on an old colonial. It was expensive but worked great for us. After using it, just use a random orbital to smooth out. It is very fast and thorough, however, the area that you mentioned where the clap meets the cornerboard has to be hand scraped. We use sandvik scrapers for that. Good Luck
