using caulking on ceiling crack

Hi Guys. I will be painting a room next week with a 4 foot hair line crack in the ceiling. The ceiling was previously painted (latex) and is a stucco ceiling. Very light stucco spray, not heavy. The client does not want to restucco the ceiling. The hair line crack does stick out. I thought about cleaning it up with a knife and filling it with paintable caulking. I would have used drywall tape with sheet rock 45, but the client does not want to respray and I am afraid that the tape / plaster method will stick out like a sore thumb. After I apply the caulking I would texture it with a sponge to make it look like stucco.

Have any of you used paintable caulking on the ceiling for this problems? Perhaps you can suggest something else. Thanks

I have done it before. It should work fine. Don't make the crack too big as to where the caulk will shrink.
