Used Airless?
I want to pick up an airless for occasional use, and unfortunately the budget is tight.
A Graco 190 is what I've looked at for a fairly inexpensive new machine. I know the Binks was more expensive in it's day; would it be a better machine now? If going new, is there something other that the 190, in that price range, that you think would be better? BTW.. I'll mostly be spraying latex, primer etc. Thanks.... Gary |

Re: Used Airless?
Gary,
I just picked up a Graco 495 ST used from a repair shop for under $700. It was brought in for repair and never picked up. He had basically just rebuilt the whole machine. I am a former painter turned general and was just building my own home and weighing the cost to rent a pump vs buying a used one and figured it would only cost a few hundred more to buy a good one vs rent plus the local rental yards only have titan 440's here which I used to own and I didn't want to use to spray out my whole house. So....my point is you may want to try calling around to some of the repair shops and see if they have something of a similar situation. In my situation the machine had been brought in for repair and they had call the guy repeatedly for three months and after 90 days they sell the machine to pay for the cost of the repairs. I think I paid about $680 and that machine is about a $1700 machine new. Its about 5 years old or so....but is in good shape and worked great. I was really impressed with how well it worked. Of course I won't use it much....I have a good painter that works for me.....but I figure I may have a rental that needs painting occasionally that I can use it on or something. Good luck to you. Sorry that I can't give you any advice on the old binks. Sam |

Re: Used Airless?
I just sold a Binks Super Bee for $200. That thing was indestructible, and worked fine. The guy got more than his moneys worth.

Re: Used Airless?
200 for a super bee is a pretty good deal. I myself i do not get to much into binks stuff but i agree that if you can bring your funds up to 4-600 you could get a much better everyday kind of performer. I just bought another 695 max2 for 800.

Re: Used Airless?
how about calling a painter to do your priming and put a little cash in your own pocket at the same time for setting it up.

Re: Used Airless?
$200 for the super bee is well worth it.
packing still available. You may get a bit more banding than with newer pumps w better pressure controls... I had a humdinger that ran and ran and ran... 'til I traded it for a trolling motor! Much better 200 for it than xr magnum stuff for 500 new. r |

Re: Used Airless?
Hey that was my first pump thirty years ago. I loved it. Looking back though it had a short stroke which means more strokes per gallon. Not a big deal if it's not gonna be a big production job you take it on. Not the best pump for consistant low pressure fine finish work. They made a lot of them though. Test the packings and balls like this. Hook up a line with a gun on it, run water through it and let off the trigger. Do this several times with quick short squirts of water. The sooner the pump stops running the better. No leaking through ball/seat or packings. If it stops quick on water, it will be even better on paint due to viscosity. These internal leaks will lead to pressure trails and now your $200 pump will need double that in parts. If the seller took care of it, you may get lucky.
