The Use Of A Paint Edger In Tight Spots??

Recently did a stairway that posed some difficultly. The issue was cutting the wall into where it meets the ceiling. It was too narrow for my jaws ladder (dam jaws ladder is too heavy / ackward sometimes...that's another thread) so I could not get up to the area with my arm. I pondered the use of a paint edger. I ended up using a paint brush extender with a 8 foot pole. Fortunately, I have a steady had and the cutting turned out great. Rolling was easy after that.

How many of you have used a paint edger to get into tight, difficult, tall ceiling areas in a stairway??

Do you have success with the edger or does it overlap onto the ceiling making a mess??

Is there an edger that you could recommend?

Thanks

Zeebo

I've tried one or two edgers, but they really just slow me down....all brush in my world.

I know, I know...the idea of using an edger makes me hurl, but some painters may have success with them. I'm just trying to get an idea if people use them, any success stories, brands recommended?? advantagous and disadvantagous.

The one I tried was quite the opposite. It left a 1/32" - 1/16" line from the edge, and didn't look good at all.

The only edger I use is:

No edgers for me either
I stick a brush in a holder for those

I have always had a few pads and edgers on hand just in case, and have never had reason to open them

My DIY family however, loves them
My sweetheart and her teen daughter always break out that stuff whenever they decide to paint

I've tried every new fangled gadget over the years in the hopes of finding a fast and easy way to cut in. However nothing beats my 2" Purdy.

Thanks Ron. I know you're right. I'm always looking for a gadget. But maybe I'll just stick to my paint extender and a long pole.

Regards,

Zeebo

PS - I prefer wooster brushes

Re: The Use Of A Paint Edger In Tight Spots??

I am currently remodeling and thought I would try an edger. I used it for about 10 feet and threw it away and returned the extra pads that afternoon.

I tried an edger on a large jobsite last year. It either left a gap at the top of the wall or smeared paint onto the ceiling. I ended up going back to my 2" Purdy

I edge my lawn every time I mow the grass! Tried it on a job once and it screwed up the drywall, who woulda thunk?
