I was working in Boston last week, Illegals everywhere. This week Monday
we were working in Newton Ma overrun with Illegals.

Today I was in Providence Ri, felt like we were workin in a third world country. Tommorrow we are finishing a job in Brazil...ooops I mean Yarmouth Ma.

Maybe you do have blinders on. It will effect your business in the near future, when companys who hire them are installing windows for 20 bucks a window.

Take a look at the link that was posted and you might rethink the "only make up a portion" line.

Thanks for expressing it, Guru Booger

You use the term "lynch mob" like it's a bad thing.

On a pie chart, a portion could be 75% or more.

It sounded like you meant they were minimal

I saw the link but could not find what percentage is latino, it groups 22 million people as illegal immigrants. 22 million is little more than 1/2 the population of Los Angeles County. Those numbers sound very conservative imo.

It looks like we have the same area. I was in Wellesley MA Monday, Cumberland RI, Lincoln RI Tuesday, Providence Wednesday, and Friday I will be in Providence again. Generally we are the only trades people working on a client's home so that might explain why I don't see them?

How do they pay for materials, cash only?

Trust me...TONS in MA.
Lately it seems like a lot of Brazilians, I WILL say that most of them are legal though, they do work hard and at least make an effort to learn the language. Brazil is very different from Mexico, they're more educated, higher standards.
I have also seen a renovation where I'd gone in late working overtime and surprized a group of Mexicans as they were cooking their dinner in a vacant unit.
The fact that anyone could hire illegals at dirt rates, let them live like servants while cutting american jobs makes me happy to hear the story that started this thread.
I suppose if I were Mexican I'd jump at the chance to get my foot in door to America as well, it's the guys who are slimey enough to hire them for close to nothing that are the low-lifes.

Re: Turned My Old Boss In

dougchips,

Wellesley? Illegals in Wellesley? HELL NO ! <BG>

No seriously, I don't know about Mexicans per se, but there area a lot of illegal Hispanics that are in the trades.

And as you say, you are not there with other contractors, but look out the window at the lawn care "professionals"

I was out on the Harvard-Bolton line last year and the HO was telling me the only people she could get to muck out her horse stalls were ILLEGAL Brazilians. She told how they were REALLY hard workers and that how they WANTED to become legal, but there was some red tape snafu. Can't verify her story, but it did give me another side of the coin. INS has big problems, on all sides.

And if you want to see some ILLEGALS, I hear all ya gotta do is look across the street from Johnson Paint on Newbury St. I hear they are just sitting there waiting for your van to pull up and hire some for the day - doesn't matter what your trade is, so I've been told.

I've got to work on using the term Hispanics and not assuming that they are all Mexicans. In the past 10 years I have only had one Hispanic" person approach me in a Home Depot parking lot looking for work for the day. Most of the towns around us would throw a fit if a bunch of illegals walked the streets. I'll have to keep an eye open for them, not sure if they wear scarlet "I" around their necks so I can tell them apart from the legal ones.

Re: Turned My Old Boss In

It has already effected the US Economy big time. Illegal Labor will continue to drive wages down along with your profit.

Yes they will work for nothing, and 7 days a week. Is that what you want to do?? No bennys no holidays etc.....

I personally know of contractors who quit there business because they could no longer make money.

please spare me about how hard they work, I work just as hard

I try very hard to keep a poistive additude but this country is really going to the dogs.

You will be effected whatever trade your in, its just a matter of time.

Re: Turned My Old Boss In

It has been a month and they havent even bothered to call me back with any questions like the operator on the phone said they probably would. I will call them again tomorrow and see what they say. Maybe if I pitch a fit and tell them that he brags that he has paid them off they will do something.
Too bad we cant do a citizens arrest, I would get me a couple of horses and some of those big nets like on the Planet of the Apes and ride through housing additions scooping them up. Maybe even get a bunch of people together to do it and pick teams, whoever catches the most wins, but if you accidently catch an amish you have to throw him back.

Not sure if you all know of Ron Paul. Texas Republican running for the Prez in 08. Look him up, research him. He'll take care of the illegals issue down there for you guys... and fast! If I lived down there I'd have a huge Ron Paul sign on my Van.

Guys get real here. 1st day of Contractor school : If somebody can get screwed it will be the contractor.

1st day of law school: Contractors are for bring a lawsuit to, not for paying.

so who makes the laws? Contractors?

So what do you call a 1000 lawyers chained at the ankle, going over the rail of a ship 20 miles out at sea?

ans:

a good start...

I know old joke, but still true.

I think a law is being proposed to stop this. Little know fact, SS cards have a scannable bar code on the back. Most banks have this scanner, but don't use it. New law would require validating the SS cards.

I've nothing against the hispanic race. I do have something against people who hate us to begin with coming here, taking the work and using their numbers and money against us. Lots are good painters, but in general they get to a certain production level and go no further. No extended knowledge or skills.

I get asked by illegals, once a week or so if i am hiring, as soon as i ask about green card, social, drivers license, then they turn and go.
