Yes. Sort of.
I have 3 enclosed trailers and I always have two on site, more so because our sites are usually 80,000sf or more.
My material is all delivered by my supplier, and anything that needs to be brought from the shop(Saws,Drills,Generators,etc..) are put in the trailer(s) and are taken to the site. From there they get loaded up at night into either my superintendents van, or my foremans truck and are brought back the same day.
At the end of the job, what does not need to be hauled off to another job goes back in the trailer and is taken back to the shop. However, being on the same site for 3-5 months at a time, we do have to switch things around alot.
If there are instances where we are short or need something, someone does run and pick it up, but it is not always the helper, pretty much because my business vehicle insurance says no one can drive the company vans or trucks if they are under 25. My one helper is 19, the other is 22. So unless it is a serious emergancy, my super calls me and I will either go to the shop and get it, or go buy it and take it to them.
The way I see it, in the field and during production, my employees make more money for me than I make money for me..so it's more cost efficient for me to go 30 minutes out of the way than for my $38.00/hour Super to go 30 minutes outta his way.
