Trim paint question..

My buddy has a very nice mcmansion he bought about five years ago.
Here's the thing. The casing is painted in gloss. The base boards are flat, satin at best. The builder told him that is how it's always done.
I have always just assumed its gloss/semi all the way around. My painter has never heard it being done that way either.

I'm from your neck of the woods, I've been doing woodwork and finish carpentry for about 14 years and I have never heard of flat paint on base boards. On the average job the norm has always been gloss or semi-gloss on all the trim but from time to time you'll see satin on a few jobs here and there.

I am finding that many of my clients are choosing a 2 coat satin over any higher sheen levels for all of the trim and doors. Home builders/GC's only know enough about painting to be dangerous.

Not bloody likely
Maybe that's how he does it
I've never seen or heard of anyone else though
More likely he just said the to cover a screw-up

I've seen high-gloss and semi-gloss
Do a lot of satin myself (semi-being #2)
There's even a bit of eggshell around here (pretty old school for the restos)

But it's the same thing all around

What color is the base trim?
Wouldn't a white would it?
...sort of like a primer that never got topcoated maybe?
Just a thought...

That's what I was thinking.
All the trim is white.

Nope just pure BS.

Painters don't let anyone in on their trade pranks handed down by our forefathers.
