Tough Caulking Problem
Greets to everyone!
I'm having a tough time trimming out some windows in a new house. The framer did a terrible job and some of the roughouts are out of square. The window panels are large and these are blind returns which are difficult to trim. The drywall guys did the best they could but I still have large gaps between the windows and the frame. I need a terrific sealant/caulk to close these gaps. This is a large window wall which will flex somewhat in the wind, so I can't use anything that is inflexible when dry. Preferably I could install with a gun, but something that could be troweled and tooled would be great as well - if it could be sanded even better. I've thought about products like Geocel ProFill which seems to have the right qualities. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to find "Super Caulk" - a product that can fill large gaps, is flexible, paintable, and will last - hopefully sandable as well. As always - thanks in advance for sharing!!!! Nailbird |

Re: Tough Caulking Problem
Seems like the glaziers mostly use butyl caulk products. Good stuff. I try to snag a tube or two whenever I can. The last stuff I saw was a Sika product.

Backer rod! It will fill the gap then caulk. Or if it's that big of a gap, I'd use some of that foam sealer crap before the backer rod.

if you need to use caulk, Sika is the best caulk around
anyway to use wood trim? |

Re: Tough Caulking Problem
I like the looks of that 'big stretch'...
We make a 2 component with wicked elongation... It is routinely used to seal cracks up to 2" thick... BUT... I have a feeling it might be too expensive for this... You could just put in a new window! Again, I'm not familiar with the 'big stretch' but, sounds good. Plus, it's fun to say... and... kinda reminds me of the 'Big Salad' episode of Seinfeld...

Re: Tough Caulking Problem
We've sold Big Stretch for years. It's good stuff. I'd still use a backer rod on very large gaps but Big stretch is capable of stretching up to 2" and returning to it's original form.
