Touch up distance

I seem to remember a long time ago reading about some industry standard of how defects or touch ups would be determined. (Some union release perhaps?) I also seem to remember it being defined as standing 4 ft. from surface/wall to note touch ups.
Anyone know if this is true or current or is there some newer way defined? I always like to have something to refer to corral crazy obsessive designers.

I pulled this from the Ontario new home warranty program.

Acceptable Performance/Condition
Interior finished drywall (excluding garages and unfinished areas) shall be free from damage
(dents and gouges) at the time of the
PDI and be installed according to the Ontario Building Code.
Blemishes readily noticeable when viewed under
normal lighting conditions from a normal viewing

position 1,800 mm perpendicular distance from the wall surface are unacceptable.

1800mm is about 70"

So when someone says that are painting is unacceptable, does this mean we make them stand 70 inches from the wall and look at it then?

Ya, that's where you start from. Then grab 'em by the back of the head and slam it against the board. Tell them to go back to 70" and try it again.

The PDCA standards call for 39 inches.
To download all the standards you need to go here
The one you want is P1-04

Too much time on their hands

I have had customers from Sawgrass and PonteVedra Golf And Country Club in Florida actually hold up a lamp and stand a few inches from the wall. When people pay a premium they expect a premium. Of Coarse they usually find out by getting to know me that they can trust me alone with their first born child and that builds the value of the benefits of my service.

I include that in my proposals & define a "properly painted surface".

What about a small bathroom? I have done several that you would have a hard time standing that far away from the wall.

I believe that standard also says without any magnification. Even in a small bathroom this will prevent an architect or inspector from examining your work using a magnifying glass ur using some extreme lighting. The standard works.

I worked on a renovation on a house sitting across from the 9th hole of said Ponte Vedra C.C. You don't EVEN want to know what ideas of being "acceptable" they pulled out of their A!

So..PA huh? Were you smart enough to take 95 north out of here before the industry turned to ST?
