Titan 440i - Freeze-split Hose?
Went out to the storage facility where I keep my 440i and it found it standing in a pool of 50/50 oil-spirits solution kept in the line. Haven't powered it up to spot exactly where the leak is.
Do the pressure hoses spilt when temperatures drop low enough? Got down to mroe than -5 late winter around here. Didn't suspect the solvent-based would expand, nor would the line. Guess it could be a seal but it seems doubtful. |

If you let it sit all winter ... you should do a little maintenance on it before using it. The solvent isn't the only thing that expands and contracts ... so do the rings. I'de check her over before bringing her to a job.

Re: Titan 440i - Freeze-split Hose?
If you let your 440i freeze. And you see fluid around it. Here are a couple scenarios that will probably be true. Almost every 440i that I have worked that froze needs a transducer. You will know that it's it when you turn on your unit and nothing happens. Second problem you can incur when a sprayer freezes is that the fluid expands and can crack the cylinder that the piston is in. Either way you are looking over $125 to fix. Next winter keep it in a temperature controlled enviroment.

Re: Titan 440i - Freeze-split Hose?
Paintpimp,
When it rains, it thunderstorms. Just what I need, in addition to work gone absolutely flat for months. Are you saying the cylinder would crack before the paint line? I've never heard of metal simply cracking with a drop in temperature. Maybe if expansive water based paint were left in the line, or say water itself, but not spirits and oil. Its not fluid around it, but rather the thinner/oil mix it was stored in, I think. Last edited by artinall; 03-16-2008 at 10:24 PM. |

I have seen water left in sprayers crack a cylinder. Being that it was spirits and oil, less chance of it happening. You may be lucky and nothing is wrong as well.

Wondering how to check this out without potentially doing harm.
Flipping the switch -- if cylinder is cracked, can this scratch piston or...? So far only felt underneath the housing and the oily substasnce is there. (but house was wrapped near here too) Seems like its the line mix but it could be the piston oil too, don't know. |
