Titan 440i

Howdy all,

Just picked up a 440i to finish up some doors and casings as the hvlp was horribly slow and tedious.

I had one french door to coat as all others were done. My question is this:

with a full gallon of paint, waited about 3 minutes before getting paint out of nozzle, did a few passes and then went to just check if the titan was ok.

Can was half empty!!!

Now I could not of used more than 1/20 of a gallon, so assuming the paint in sitting in reserve and hose, after cleaning, this paint is just wasted??? I tried changing to prime mode to clean out reserve back into can.

If someone would care to share the trick of not wasting so much paint!

C.

OK you are on the right track with the switching to prime mode. What you need to do is chase the paint out of your lines with water, assuming it is latex, or thinner for oil.

While still in prime mode, lift the intake out of the paint to drain the paint in the pump. Staying in prime mode place your intake in clean water or thinner until there are no more bubbles.

Take the tip off your gun, switch the pump to spray and shoot your paint back into the paint can. This should take about 30 seconds give or take.

You can either stop short before the water comes out, or a little water will probably do no harm, and you can tell almost instantly when the change takes place.

Then shoot your fluid (now mostly water) back into the clean water.

Congratulations! You just saved your paint and cleaned your machine.

Thank you!~ That is what I was thinking. The only problem is with a new rig like this is shooting the paint from the gun. I had no idea how much pressure it would have casusing a small explosion of paint in the can and onto my face and surrounding. I will give it a try in a place where I can not do damage!

Thanks again...

Either back the pressure down before you switch from priming, or have the gun triggered when you pressure back up. This will keep you from getting sprayed.

paint must be in your hose. you really cant use an airless just for 1 door, alot of paint is stored in the lines. if you were painting 20 doors, then it makes sense, more of a production thing. for the remain door, should have used the hvlp gun as it holds all the paint in the cup vs the line on the airless

titan 440i

Don't worry your not the only one who got covered in paint if your HONEST when i first got my titan i did not realise just how much pressure was in the machine. Just remember to hold on to the priming hose when priming and take the tip out and squeze the trigger very very gently. Awsome spray gun, there can be as much as 1 litre of paint in a 10m hose and another litre in the machine i think. As the other guy said its probably not worth using a titan to spray one door. I normally use 25litre tins of stain for spraying cabins.

Good Luck

Yea, thats pretty much the way to do it. I do this everytime I finish up, it also helps not having to clean out your prime bucket as much since there is less paint to clean out. Plus you save your customers paint ,which they always love.
