Tinting primer question

I am going to be priming new construction this weekend. I have glidden primer. My wife has several colors of paint she likes but is not sure which one she likes the best. Would it be possible to get the primer tinted to several different colors of paint and prime the house that way? She can get an idea of what the paint will look like by the primer color. My only concern is that when we paint, will the paint show thru the different color primers differently? The paint colors will be very close to one another, just a few shades different, so will the primer.

thks.....Larry

As long as the colors are close to each other, you should have no problems with the primer showing thru the finish coat.
Often times in new construction, we have some left over primer of a slightly different shade we use. Just make sure that you get good coverage.
We usually have the primer tinted a lighter color than the finish coat, but that is just to make sure that we don't miss an area with the finish coat.

Well if they are all light colors, stick with white primer, cause that will be a lighter version (a few exceptions like vivd yellows, and certain tans are very transparent and you will want a primer close to that color).

If they are all dark colors, get a grey primer (you can find them on the shelf, or have the paint desk put 2 ounces of black in a white primer).

If you're doing two topcoats of a quality paint the primer color won't matter too much.

If it's only a few shades off, I think the primer won't show that anyway
Tinted primer doesn't really show the color well enough to gauge that difference

I think you're better off investing in the Ben Moore computer program where you can take pics of the room, put them on the computer, and change the room/trim colors of the picture

It should be under $20 online, or at the Ben Moore dealer

If it were BM colours, then I could tell you exactly what formula to make in grey shade that is of the same LRV value.

(I have a cheat sheet!)
