Tinting

Anybody remember the days when you tinted your own paint?

Do still do it?

You got me by a few years.

I worked with some Iranian painters years ago......they custom tinted all their interior latex wall and trim.

I realize the tech we have now is way better, but it was kinda cool to 'make' a custom color in the field.

Faux finishers do a lot of it, they need small ammounts of many colours.

Paint gets delivered tinted.
We sometimes tint a primer a bit.

I've tinted it myself for primer once, but it just had to be close, not perfect....And I'm 27, so I've grown up in the "Buy it ready to use" generation.....not by choice, but it does make it easier

have you seen my grandpa?....here's a recent pic

Yeah, I do this a lot actually. Working stain matches with a client is a big one. I'll sit down with them and get it just right if the client is finicky.

Also, during color selection stage, I'll grab an extra quart and tint something up special and sell it as a unique color if the client can't find anything they really like in the BM deck. I've had to do this quite a lot lately. I can guarantee one thing, I'll know precisely what they want after I do that and they'll feel like someone really went out of their way to help them out. That's gotten me some really good jobs.
