Thoughts On Water Based
We are considering converting to an airless sprayer for, finishing our cabinets with water based finishes. .
We will be staining, clear coating and color coating doors, side panels and trim. Please feel free to interject |

Re: Thoughts On Water Based
I would get two different rigs, one for oil based(thinner clean-up), and one for latex based(water clean-up) for the extra $$$ it's worth it to have two because it'll save you alot of hassle going from thinner to water to thinner back to water, and you'll be able get things done faster and easier if you have to spray oil and latex in the same day.
You can use a smaller rig for oil based, but you'll want a real contractor spec'd rig for latex. |

Re: Thoughts On Water Based
The thing I would worry about with water base on the bare wood it will raise the grain, as for oil this will hold up better and last longer, then you have the fact that here in the USA Acetone has been removed from the paint industry by the EPA in Sept. of 1999 they can not make it anymore thems the rules.

Is there a wood conditioner that can be applied to keep the grain from raising... or does that just help with even staining.

Re: Thoughts On Water Based
Water based varnish still looks like plastic coating to me. It's just not right. It's too thick, doesn't lay well and is just too clear.
