Textured Panel Board?
A customer wants his (4-6-8 just a guess) panel boards in living room textured over. Its painted gloss white right now.
Ive never textured over Paneling before. What am i expecting, and what kind of surface preparation should i perform? Any other suggestions or comments would be great. Thanks |

Re: Textured Panel Board?
i just textured some paneling, I filled the lines, sanded the paneling, primed the paneling, textured it, primed it agian with latex then painted. I have painted paneling many times like this and have always had good results. The sanding and the priming of the paneling itself is the most important step IMO, because that is what makes the texture stick to the panel.

Re: Textured Panel Board?
Mesh tape the seams, use a rubber mud knife to float the joints, prime with just about any good primer like Kilz 2. It will work well the heavier the better. Skip Trowel looks best IMO. I've done a lot of it.Mike in Moab

Re: Textured Panel Board?
Depends on exactly what kind of paneling you are talking about

slickshift give me the names of all the panel board you know of based on my desription that would be on an interior wall that would have a completly different application process for texture.

....but off the top of my head 1) Old school paneling (that originally came with a glossy finish....it has those grooves to be filled) 2) Old school paneling (that originally came with a glossy finish....it has those grooves to be filled) that has been repainted 3) Above, but repainted incorrectly and failing 4) Mid west barn board, painted (often considered "paneling") 5) Above, but repainted incorrectly and failing 6) NE barn board, painted (also often considered "paneling", very different from MW barn board) 7) Above, but repainted incorrectly and failing 8) Pre-primed paneling (can look somewhat glossy) 9) "No-paint" paneling 10) Fake wainscoting paneling of the types mentioned above (grooves and beads) 11) Fake T & G paneling (grooves), types mentioned above I'm not trying to be a douche, I have no idea what you mean by "panel boards" Just trying to be clear here, to help give you better advice We come from all over north America and parts beyond We use different terms, and we run across different types of common (or uncommon) substrates regionally, it helps to be specific Its not that each one I mentioned has a completely different procedure Its that some of the procedures used on some of these types, will not work well on others Just trying to help Good Luck
