Sundry Sign-Out Sheet?

Anyone use a sundry sign-out sheet in the shop?

Like if a crew takes six 1/2" White Doves out for the Cranky-Pita job, they can write or mark down somewhere that the shop stock is now less six 1/2" White Doves, and they went for the Cranky-Pita job?

Thanks in advance for any input

They are nice thoughts and work for a while, but just a matter of time when someone is in a rush and grabs something with out marking it down.

If you have a full time shop rat ,that can work. In the army we had that, one guys job was to be locked in the tool crib, and sign in and out tools all day.

Sounds stupid but consider this. Post signs at the exits to the shop that read "By removing materials or supplies from the shop without recording them on the Shop Materials and Supllies Agreement, you are agreeing to work at minimum wage today."

Shop Material and Supplies Agreement

I the undersigned, hereby state that I have removed the following materials or supplies from the shop, for use on the job/project noted, and that I do NOT wish to work for minimum wage today.

Why not put in a bar code system and let your computer track inventory?

Hey, why not just use RFID chips to identify everything? Pretty soon you and I will be identified and tracked by one too!

I have one installed already just in case my short term memory loss decides to go full time.

Nobody actually uses one then eh?
Hmmm.....

Well, I figured that people would "forget" after a while
Putting a "no signy-no money" thing might help

I looked into the bar code thing a few years ago working for someone else
That system does rock, but it's a few $K to start it up
This is few shelves of sundries for a couple of crews-not necessarily worth a few $K system
But anyone with a large amount of crews/sundries I'd suggest looking into it
....I dunno, I may see if the price has gone down
Maybe they've got a "Garage Stock Room E-Bay Entrepreneur" version

I already have an RFID chip in my head
The Gov't put it there...but they might have been Martians in suits
That's why I wear this hat made of Reynolds Wrap, so they can't find me

Thanks for the replies

I have one made, but not yet implemented.

Been thinking about doing this, easier to track what gets used where and what goes home. To be honest, I'm not big enough yet to worry about it. Seems like a decent idea.

When I worked at the University we had one. Worked fairly well there. You'd check out material in the morning, sign for all of it, so they didn't have to have someone in the cage all day.

It's actually not a worry (at this time lol), but I want to "think like a big co., act like a big co."

Ok i'll chime in on this one. This is how big companies think and do.. ready?

There is no sundry deposit, each job has it's own sundries built into the job and all equipment that costs less that 20 dollars is left in the trash at the end. Rags, paint, poles, paper, tape, minirollers... everything. It's already paid for by the customer, and the next customer will buy everything anew. It takes an average of 30 minutes for a painter at 12.00 an hour to clean a roller cover for re-use... that's 6 bucks a cover... large companies charge a small fee each job for sundries.

Not to shoot you down or anything but.. don't think like a large company
