Suggestions For Sunday (11-12-06) Chat Topic

Any suggestions?
I would offer up wallcovering, as in removing, prepping after removing, subbing out the installation, etc etc.

Lets hear what you want to chat about.

Ladder safety.

Check out this document of electrocutions since 1982. A great deal of them are due to painter's getting their ladders in or too close to overhead power lines:

Since when are you even allowed in the painting forum?

I think any job site safety issue is a good idea.

Re: Suggestions For Sunday (11-12-06) Chat Topic

If I may horn in on the painter's exclusive chat temporarily, then I second the wallcoverings topic. We have a huge job coming up within the next few weeks that involves removing old paper. The client actually requested we re-rock the entire room instead of remove the paper.

Also, we have to paint the entire office up and downstairs so I need to learn anything you guys are willing to teach about paint / color schemes and such.

I think safety in general would make a great topic. Respirators, skin protection, ladder safety, spontaneous combustion, etc.. etc.. etc..

Hey , you can make all the money you want but if your not around in ten years what's the sense?

So Ironic...I was going to PM you about a job I'm working. Old plaster walls, wallpaper coming down (3 different types of wallpaper, I might add)

But yea, I 2nd this topic- I do a wallpaper removal per month. I'm used to it, love to do it, but run across so many different scenarios.

Well, I felt like a fat girl on prom night. No one showed up for the chat.
Should we try it again tomorrow night? 11-19-06

I'll certainly try to make it! Wall covering sounds like a great topic. I have done two removal jobs in the past month and would like to know how I could improve.

Not that we did anything wrong, they both turned out great.

The one thing I lack as far as wallpaper removal goes is all the different types that have been out there for the last 30-50 years. I think a better knowledge of the papers would greatly help in removing them.

Re: Suggestions For Sunday (11-12-06) Chat Topic

Yeah, its supposed to be every other sunday night. Last week was the night. I popped in at 9EST, and saw no one. Waited for a minute, and said the hell with it, I'm watching the Bears game. Lets try again tomorrow night, and we'll get it back on track. Hopefully since Nathan fixed the chat code, we will be able to see when someone is in the chat room now.

Re: Suggestions For Sunday (11-12-06) Chat Topic

Can we gear the topics more towards the painting business, industry trends, and things that will help the contractor more? Assuming we are all contractors, and since the basic questions are drilled continuously in the forums, can we discuss paint contracting more instead of regular topics we should already have a decent grip on?

Maybe this week we could discuss separating ourselves from the competition in order to build a business that doesn't compete on price and how everyone is achieving different levels of success....or something.

Just thought I'd ask....
