Structural Fill

After test borings it was recommended that the footers were to be undercut 3 feet under and twice the width of the bearing concrete. It is to be back filled and compacted with 2B crushed stone. I questioned this and think that 2A or 2A modified would compact better. Should I just shut up and give them what they want or persist?

Re: Structural Fill

Engineers get paid well to decifer and specify what needs to be used. Follow their recommendations as written and have them inspect when you are finished and you are safe.

Nothing wrong with asking questions to the engineer, I do, but remember they are tempermental, so it's not what you ask, it's how you ask.

Re: Structural Fill

You might get a good response in the contractor area, not too many painters can give you a good answer.

I think that the 2A or 2A modified would look great painted orange.
