Striping Painted Formica

I doing a job now that another contractor botched badly, one aspect of the job requires striping latex paint off formica doors, they want it down to the original formica, I dont want to use anything too toxic, or to smelly because its a daycare, and allthough Im doing it at night I dont want the stink to linger into opening hours, any suggestions? Thanks.
