Re: Stain/lacquer Gun

This is an Asturo HVLP conversion gun that I've used for 4-5 years. It does a great job.

The choices are vast. If you are only going to use it ocassionally, you can pick up a cheap one (Campbell-Hausfeld) to get the job done.
The most important thing is to keep it clean and practice on scrap before shooting the real thing.

Binks is #1, an inexpensive knockoff is Nesco and many of the parts interchange with Binks. In furniture, you won't know the difference.

To convert it to HVLP, you have to split the air and add 2 regs. Pressurize the pot to 3-5 PSI and back off on the gun pressure. You will have to play with this. Done properly, this system will shoot polyester gel coat and resin, latex and the mediums that it was designed for.

It takes some practice.

We use airless sprayers for our woodwork. For lacquer we use a 4-12fine finish tip. For varnishes we use 4-11. We also use the same for cabinets

Airless is what we use as well. CV, Lacquers, and Alkyds we use a 311 RacV. Pigmented Lac we'll use a 413.

Our Titan 440 does an ok job.
