Spray On Texture???
Hey all...
Gotta a job where the HO had her pops and father-in-law finish her basement. I'm not sure what happened, but they kind of stopped for a while and the HO decided to paint before her dad and f-in-law were finished, finishing the walls and ceiling.. Anyway, I'm going to just hit up the walls with 90 and try to bring them to some uniformity. Then the HO is going to paint a faux finish of some type. Now, for the ceilings, I want to texture them but have never done it and for an idea of the room size, the ceiling is around 400 sq ft... I am looking for the least time consuming method. Should I just go and buy a cheap texture sprayer from Blowes or HD? I will probably texture a ceiling again in the future, but not anytime soon, so I don't mind buying a cheap tool.

Re: Spray On Texture???
That's what I would do. A hopper kit at Home Depot is around 60 bucks. You need a decent sized compressor to keep up with it. I ended up buying the Graco texture machine, but that is way more than you need for the occasional small texture job. At 400 sq. feet, it is a little bigger than I would attempt to do with spray can texture, but if you want to try it, wear a respirator.

Re: Spray On Texture???
What are my options as far as being more labor consuming? I mean, what type of hand texturing can I explore?

Re: Spray On Texture???
If you are looking at spraying a texture on small jobs I suggest the Wagner
Powertex "All in one power texture sprayer". I have a hopper with compressor for larger jobs but use the Power Tex for small areas or touchup. Check your big box stores or paint stores. My cost was around $100 and well worth it. Its simple to use and simple to clean. Do a search on the web for "Wagner Power Tex sprayer. If you want to hand texture others can help you here. I do very little of hand texturing in that everything is spray textured here in California. Jerry |

Here's another question... This might depend on the product that i choose to use for texture, but since the walls were painted with latex paint, should I be priming the surface prior as well??

Yes, I would prime first.

Re: Spray On Texture???
Since you say that say that you mudded with a 90 minute mud it would be necessary to prime prior to texturing to get a consistent texture especially if it will be knocked-down. I would also suggest that you prime the walls after the texturing to seal the walls for the topcoatflat or semi-gloss in that the new texture will suck out the acrylic in the paint leaving little protection for cleaning.
