Spray Prime Drywall 14000 Sq' NePA Est.

Hello All,
First time posting. I have small company in NE PA and have been presented with a chance to bid this work. new construction, no trim. Can anyone give me a ball park figure per sq'?
I enjoy painting, but the bidding process is always a struggle.
Also, could you please point me in the direction of some good estimating books? or possibly software?
Thank you for your time, Randy

Randy,
It's hard to say without knowing the layout or seeing the job or plans. It could take 1 day, it could take 5 or 10? Lot's of variables.

Is is a huge house? Several small houses? Offices/ Office space? A big demising wall in a warehouse?

I don't really bid by measurements or sq. footage.

If you provide some more details, perhaps I can be a bit more help.

I do have the "Paint Estimator" book but rarely use it. I actually checked it out from the public library. It came with a disc so I loaded it on my computer. It provides decent info.

Either way, you're looking at about 40 gallons of primer. Bid it for 50 gallons though....just in case.

Thank you Vandyandsons. It is sight unseen as of yet. 2 story residential, I believe. I will get a chance to do a walk through.
I have the painting estimate book that you mentioned, although mine is well out of date being 1995. I honestly had a hard time following the layout.
And the estimating software I have demoed is way expensive and not intuitive( to me anyway)
I have worked with this GC before, and will likely get the job, but being this is a small area, I need to get my pricing in line.
Bidding is my weak point.
Thanks for the Advice.
Randy

If you know what you're doing with the sprayer, it won't take long to spray 14,000 square foot of drywall. Two days at the max, if you're buying the paint I figured roughly 47-50 gallons max. That's a ballpark of a grand just in material, throw in another 1500-2000 for labor and there you go. You'd make money anywhere from 2500-3500 and be happy IMO.

I guess you think you could pay me a couple of hundred a day and make it work. It doesn't work that way, especially if I'm paying a lead man to spray at $16-18 dollars per hour. He's probably going to end up having two full days spraying this thing out. This job is absolutely worth 2500 bucks minimum.

I'm glad I don't work for you, we'd be arguing over money and that's not my style.

$2500 is minimum as well. If you don't own a sprayer, it would take at least three days+. Not my fault we spray and spray fast. $2500, yepper

What is your bread and butter skill? Painting is theirs.

No sense in arguing.

Agreed. I did carpentry work for a painter for a year or so. THere were times he had no woodworking to do and I ended up painting. Didn't mind it much as it's not really my cup of tea, but not awful bad work. What he could spray in a day and what I could spray a day were like night and day.

I am still looking for a worker that can work as efficiently and as quickly as I do...

Man it is frustrating when I put a guy in a walk in closet and it takes him two days to finish...cutting in.

LOL...I'm not really that bad. I do most of my own painting on my remodels. Sometimes tha HO does his own painting. I am pretty decent with a brush. First time the guy I worked for saw me painting he semi sorta yelled at me and told me "hold your brush like a white man for Christ sakes" I sprayed half a dozen aluminum sided houses for him. Like everything else once you get past the learning curve it wasn't bad.

Where are you from randrohe?

I didn't mean you per say, you just got me thinking about a helper I brought on the job from a friend to keep him working.

Should of let him go after the first day. Or as soon as you noticed he had a lazy eye.

You know how it is though, you actually need the $10 an hour guy so you bite your lip and hope the next time you check up on him he somehow sped up. I did let him go when he started acting like money was something he had enough of and became unreliable.
