Small Deck Question

hello to all , thanks for taking a minute, three years ago I applied semi transparent stain to a weathered deck , had not been previously stained.
I power washed with a deck conditioner first, allowed it to dry completely.
I had done research and told my costomer that it would probably need some more in a few years.
So, I looked at it recently and it looked like it held up pretty good for the most part, but two boards in the middle (horizontal )have almost all of the stain worn off and the top rails, which were not in the best shape to begin with now had wide deep cracks running all the way practically from end to end. Ofcourse I replaced the top rails, and threw a light coat of the same stain over them right away .(Don't fret it was pre treated and weathered )
So here is the question, before I do anything else to this deck, which by the way belongs to the owner of a large repaint apt. complex that my co. has maintained for almost ten years, I want to make the right move with the right product. What bothers me is I used (brace yourself guys I am about to say the B word ) Behr waterbase semi tr stain . Just thought I would ask for some imput before I proceed. What would you put over this?
I know I have to go solid right ? Or can I switch to just a clear sealer?
I don't mean to sound like a rookie here, I am well seasoned in many areas
but, well you've all heard this before, this is not my specialty. Thanks Mac2

Re: Small Deck Question

why would you go solid color? you can use a semi-trans again.

sprinkle water on the areas that look good. if it beads up you have to strip the existing coating. if it soaks in, all you have to do is power wash and stain. If you are worried about the semi-transparent not looking uniform since a couple boards look bare you should strip the entire deck with a deck stripper (easy to use but kills plants).

Re: Small Deck Question

Decks in the midwest need refinishing every two years regardless of the product.

Re: Small Deck Question

You ought to try a product called Sikkens, you would be amazed with the results!
